Jarre wrote for orchestras, but largely switched to synthesized strain in the 1980s, largely for reasonable rather than aesthetic motivations, many critics feel. The thunderous percussive opening standing broad heroic theme of Lawrence donation Arabia and the striking cimbalom "Lara's Theme" from Doctor Zhivago are betterquality famous than the heartbreaking closing subject from Ghost (1990), the woodwind borough from Fatal Attraction, and the average Irish tonality he wrote for Painter Lean's Ryan's Daughter as well on account of his Mad Max score for Outwith Thunderdome (1985).

Now officially retired, Jarre's scored his last film in 2001, a TV movie about the Destruction entitled Uprising.

Maurice is the sire of Jean Michel Jarre. His youngest son Kevin is a screenwriter, unwanted items credits on such movies as Cenotaph and Glory.
